Wings & Wheels Fly-In & Car Show Held at Chickasha Municipal Airport
CHICKASHA, Okla. – June 17, 2019 – On Saturday, June 15, the Chickasha Municipal Airport hosted the 2019 Wings & Wheels Fly-In & Car Show, presented by Chickasha Wings and City of Chickasha.
During the Father’s Day Weekend event, RC Jet demonstrations, airplane tours, classic cars, food trucks and a flyover by the event’s featured airplane, the Arizona Commemorative Air Force’s B-25J Mitchell Maid in the Shade, entertained more than 1,000 guests. Nearly 100 children participated in free Young Eagles flights, provided by local EAA members.
More than 70 airplanes, cars and trucks were on display. In the car show, Brent Teal’s 1968 Chevrolet C-10 was named Best in Show. At the fly-in, awards were given to Randy Buttram’s Fairchild PT-19 for Best Warbird, Terry Green’s Helicycle for Best Homebuilt, Greg Hale’s Van’s RV10 winning Best RV and Bill Spurlock’s Mooney M10-Cadet winning Best Antique.
The B-25J Mitchell Maid in the Shade was built in early 1944 and is one of only 34 B-25Js still flying out of nearly 10,000 produced. The Maid in the Shade was flown in America’s first large-scale bombing offensive in the Phillippines. Used by many Allied air forces, the B-25 served in every theater of WWII, mainly as a low altitude strafe and skip bomber.
In the week leading up to the event, the community was invited to stop by the airport to get a private tour, take photos with the Maid in the Shade and visit with the crew. The Maid in the Shade was stationed in Chickasha from June 10-17.
The Wings & Wheels Fly-In & Car Show was sponsored by the City of Chickasha, Chickasha Wings, Mosley Agency, Century 21 Mosley Real Estate, Jay’s Jewelry & Firearms, Okie Mountain Trading Co., Shollie’s Sweets, Morris Motorsports, Standley Systems, USW Utility Group, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Focus Federal Credit Union, John Holt Chevrolet, Wing T’s, Creative Image Studios and Billy Sim’s BBQ.
